Hi I’m Martina!

I’m the Founder and Director of The NEXT Scientist (TNS), a digital platform created to make science accessible. As a science communicator, trained toxicologist and STEM diversity education advocate, my work focuses on using science communication and STEM education to make science more accessible.

Growing up as a young Black girl, I loved science, creating, learning and reading. To me science communication was a great way I could use my interests, skills and values to make an impact. I like to say that science communication is the cool and fun side of science. TNS was created to share how science communication can be used to create accessible, engaging and inclusive science. I want to inspire the next generation of scientists so they can learn how to communicate their science too.

Here at The NEXT Scientist (TNS) you will find information about using science communication as a tool, being more creative with your science through various types of storytelling and sharing your work with others. The key is to use your creativity to communicate your science in a new way.

Key Focus Areas: Science Communication, Science Writing, STEM Education, STEM Diversity, Civic Science, STEM, audience engagement, digital strategy
